Tammy Lou’s Cafe
6330 US-64, Pottsville
The moment you meet Tammy Lou, you feel like you’re home. Her kind and welcoming presence is so genuine, you’ll wonder if you’re kin. If you’re a regular, she’ll treat you like family and probably ask you something like, “how’s your daddy doin’?” as she gets you seated. She told me she’s been in business for 30 years, so she might actually know your daddy!
After plopping down a Route 44-sized beverage at our table (with the good ice!), she recommended some popular dishes and had them whipped up in no time to sample. I’m pretty sure my eyes popped out of my head when I saw how generous the portions were. She brought out the “Apache Special:” a loaded cheeseburger with side of onion rings as well as a serving of one of the daily specials: pinto beans with fried taters, cabbage, and cornbread. These dishes transported me to a place of southern perfection. Nothing was greasy, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and filling. Even after we were sure we couldn’t fit in another bite, she brought out the biggest plate of juicy and perfectly spiced apple crisp topped with vanilla ice cream. Honestly, it was probably some of the best I’ve ever had.
I know our great experience is not the exception – if you stop in for breakfast or lunch, you’ll be treated with the same hospitality. I told Tammy Lou to expect some of my friends, so the next time you’re feeling hungry, you should give Tammy Lou a visit and tell her I sent you.
