This week we present you with something a little different…a selection of snack boards ready to make. You can make a snack board for just about any occasion; breakfast boards (bagels, bacon, jelly, hardboiled eggs, fruit); bratwurst boards, taco bar boards, or whatever food combinations you can imagine. Get creative and use your favorite food items, or use the following suggestions to get started. This weeks collections were organized by Cass Capen-Housley, Instructor/Event Coordinator for the Department of Agriculture and Tourism, and the boards by Hartzell Homestead.
Charcuterie Board
A Charcuterie Board is a typical meat and cheese board. Here’s a few rules for putting together a great board:
- Pick what you like
- Have something sliced
- Have something spreadable
- Have something sweet
- Have some accents (for this board it was chili mango slices)
- Have some fruit (this board had grapes)
- Plan on guests eating 3-4 ounces each of meat and cheese (about 3 slices of cheese or pepperoni)
- It is ok to assemble and have things next to each other and messy-that is the appeal that it is not so organized
This board included:
- Pepperoni, Salami
- cubed gouda, cheddar, and asiago cheeses
- peanut nut mix
- chili mango slices
- grapes (cut these into smaller clusters)
- assorted crackers
- sweet and spicy crackers (get any flavor you like)
- kalamata olives
- garlic stuffed green olives
- firecracker crackers
- cream cheese with jalapeno relish
Hummus Board
- Pine nut hummus-8 ounces
- baby carrots
- grape tomatoes
- Dot’s Pretzels (this can be pita chips, sliced pita bread, naan, or tortilla chips)
- bell pepper
- Other vegetables people can use-sliced cucumber, snap peas, broccoli, or cauliflower
Popcorn Snack Board
- Butter popcorn – 2 microwave bags
- Chocolate Drizzle Popcorn- 5.5 ounce bag
- Caramel Popcorn-8ounce bag
- Cheese Popcorn- 9 ounces (2 bags)
- Gummy bears -7.5 ounces
- Chocolate Covered Pretzels-6.5 ounces
- Cheeze ITs-5 ounces
While this board features popcorn and other savory snacks, you can add whatever sweets you like; M&Ms, gummy worms, assorted mini candy bars, hershey kisses, mints, and more.
