Daddy’s Smackin’ Wings and Things
2410 East Main St, Russellville
If it’s Thursday (or any day of the week), you should absolutely navigate to Daddy’s Smackin’ Wings and Things in Russellville. Ronny hosts “Soul Food Thursday,” and it’s aptly named with a rotating main and sides that will definitely speak to your soul.
On my Thursday visit, the special was roast on a bed of flavorful, whipped mashed potatoes. It was so mouthwatering I couldn’t put my fork down. The carrots added sweetness while still keeping their bite, and the roast just fell apart. Like most Southerners, I felt right at home with this dish.
Don’t get me started on the “smackaroni,” either. This mac-and-cheese dish is hands down the creamiest I’ve ever enjoyed. The spices gave this side such an edge that I just wanted a whole meal of just these creamy, cheesy noodles.
But then I tried the wings that make this place famous: fried peanut butter and jelly chicken wings. It was a new combination to me, so I was hesitant to try them. As soon as my teeth sunk into the tender morsel of chicken, my eyes bugged in delight. The peanut butter gently coats the breading and brings out the savory notes of the meticulously fried chicken. And the jelly? Not overwhelming! The jelly adds just a touch of sweetness that brightens up the rich flavors.
Soul Food Thursday is something worthy of marking your calendars for. Honestly, though, you should visit Daddy’s Smackin’ Wings & Things any day of the week for a meal that you’ll want to sink your teeth into.
